A HISTORY OF

Maple

The Coutts family has a long history of farming in Lanark County, dating back to the mid 1800's. Our family first immigrated to the area from Scotland and purchased land in Oliver's Ferry, now known as Rideau Ferry.

Our great, great grandfather, Archibald Coutts boiled his first batch of maple syrup in 1880 over an open fire. In 1920, his son, George Coutts, bought an evaporator and the production of maple syrup has since been continued on an annual basis passed down from generation to generation.

Maple syrup production has always been an important piece of my life and I am now the 5th generation maple syrup producer in my family as I recently took over from my parents.

The sugar bush is located on the family farm in Lanark County and we currently have 6500 taps. We take pride in our business and Coutts Maple Products always guarantees 100% pure Ontario maple syrup. Our syrup comes with over 140 years of experience!
